Tiny Dancer

December 3, 2010

We went back for another ultrasound two weeks after we first saw the nugget in 3D.  Still a skinny little guy, but he's growing by the minute!!  He's about the size of a Mango, which seems small until I think about it inside my belly! The technician was amazed that he had cheeks so early in his prenatal development.  Toland Cheeks!  Rick now thinks that he sees the Osmer nose and we both continue to hope he has his dad's big blue eyes.

One to Grow On

I'm the Baby

Maggie is starting to suspect something might be up...and so she works extra hard to  remind us that she is the true baby of the family!

Baby Bumps - 17 Weeks

Frogs and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails

November 19, 2010

We took bets, opened up a pool, encouraged guesses....everyone was convinced the nugget would come out wearing ballet flats and practicing her pirouets.  The odds were on a pretty princess...but low and behold....It's a Boy!!

We couldn't wait to find out, were seriously going crazy with the not knowing.  So, we hiked out to the very outskirts of Brooklyn to have a 4D Ultrasound at 17 weeks.  This isn't really recommended, as the nugget is still working very hard to amass basic things like skin and fat...and he can look a little...well, freakish. But, we were not to be deterred!  We took the hour long subway ride out to our appointment full of anticipation and nervous excitement.  Finally we made it in to see the technician and there he was.  5 inches and about the size of a naval orange.  All angles and hard corners and lanky limbs.....but 100% all boy!

A boy. A beautiful baby boy.  We are so excited!!

Bursting with Baby News

October 18, 2010

Bursting.

That is the only word to describe how be both felt in trying to keep the little one a secret.  We originally planned to wait until we were safely in our second trimester before we shared the big news, but keeping silent was a lot more difficult than we ever expected.  We were just a hair shy of 3 months when we decided to start spreading the news.  It's only the biggest thing that ever happened to us, and as time went on, timelines started to feel more and more arbitrary.  So we blurted. And we were so glad we did.

Getting such positive and enthusiastic responses from the people we loved the most made us feel so lucky and adds exponentially to our joy.  Knowing that our child will come into a world surrounded by so many people who are so eager to meet him/her is an extraordinarily heartwarming feeling that we continue to cherish.

Hands, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

October 18, 2010

Our first ultrasound courtesy of St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital…and this little one’s first close up. 2 1/2 inches and the size of a large plum.  He/She obviously takes after Rick in loving the camera…but we both agree, that nose is all Toland!

Such a happy visit.

Ta-Dah!!

October 8, 2010

There he/she is!  There actually is a tiny nugget taking up residence in my belly.  About 1 1/2 inches long...and the size of a prune.
With a good strong heartbeat and an already apparent personality all his/her own, this kid's off to a great start!  Rick and I were both a little emotional and can’t wait for what’s next!

Taking my Time

September 8, 2010

We were so excited to catch a glimpse of our little one, we made the earliest possible appointment.

Turned out we were a little too early for his/her big debut.  He/she is just easing down the road, taking his time and doing his thing.  The size of an orange seed.  Barely there but unmistakably ours. He/she is the wee little dot, our peanut, smaller than a pea. We just have to be patient....our first lesson on the way to becoming parents.  This kid's only 5 weeks old and already teaching us a thing or two.
